Hello! Well, have had a fantastic couple of days. On Saturday it poured rain all day. So was a very quiet day, adding pics, chillin at the hostel. The rain chased us into the rooftop bar, where we had dinner and drinks with people from the hostel. Eventually the entire hostel went to a nearby bar, where festivities continued. I went home early(3:30am!), because the next day we were going to try and rent a car.
Thank goodness for our new Swiss friend Markus(aka:James!). Our plan was to rent a car and drive a route from Salta to Cafayate to Cachi and back to Salta. Markus was up early and sorted it all out. So the three of us packed it all up and managed to be on the road by 1pm! Pretty good considering Tracy didn´t get home until 6:30am!
The drive from Salta to Cafayate was amazing. During the drive it just kept getting better and better, and we had to stop every couple of kilometers to take photos. Became a bit of a joke to see if we could make it 3kms without stopping! Eventually we finally made it to Cafayate, where we had a bit of trouble finding a room. But finally did. Went for dinner and drinks, and went back to our hotel where they had all kinds of live music. We think it was some kind of folk festival happening. Very good timing for us!
Up early the next morning, and on the road again. This time the drive was along a gravel road, and we tried(successfully!) to get the car as dirty as possible. It was a little car and there were some huge muddy puddles we weren´t sure we would make it through! But we did! Wheww. The drive was amazing. The surrounding mountains and hills, changing rock colours, and lush green valleys. We went through a national park(can´t remember the name just now), and basically drove into a cloud. It was soo weird. All mist and fog, and we couldn´t see a lot. But once we drove down enough we finally emerged to see amazing lush greem mountains and valleys. It was an amazing ride. So beautiful. Managed to find our way back into the city and to our hostel without any trouble. Cooked up a huge batch of spagetti and had some wine. It was early to bed for me. I was so tired. Tracy stayed up with some people at the hostel.
Today we are going to try and sort ourselves out. Figure out how long we will be here, what we are doing, when and how we are getting to Bolivia, maybe even try and book our Inca Trail Trek. Will also try and get more pics on the web. So until then....
Cheers
