The Driest Desert in the World!!!

Well we are now in the far north of Chile, and doin the tourist thing. We left La Serena on Saturday night and didn´t arrive in San Pedro until 4pm the next day! A very long ride for sure. Have have to spend longer in San Pedro than we planned (couldn´t get a seat on the bus), and will be here until Friday. So we are enjoying some chill time and trying to see the sights. Monday we didn´t do much of anything, just explored the very small town, moved hostels, dinner at the hostel and mucho vino!

Last night we went on a tour of Valle de la Luna. It was really good. Stopped at a few view points and our Canadian guide(imagine that!) told us all about the area. At the second view point we started our 2 hour trek through some of the park. Along cliffs, through valleys, along river beds and through a cave. Gorgeous sights along the way. Very much like being on the moon! Then off to the major view point in Valle de la Luna to see the sun set. We hiked along the edge of a HUGE sand dune to one of the viewing points. The views were amazing and it was impossible to take a bad photo. The changing colours on the surrounding mountains and rocks, and then the sunset itself was fantastic. A great afternoon for sure. I´m such a sucker for a good sunset!

Today we rented some bikes. First we tried for find one oasis, with some water to refresh ourselves in.....but we didnt find the right one, so headed to the next. This time we went past the turn and had to double back and ended up taking the long route! But we found it and the nice and cold pool that was there. After swimming and relaxing we got back on our bikes and headed back to town. Ohhh soooo tired. The elevation isn´t that high here, but the altitude sure hits you when you try to do some exercise! Just went for a yummy dinner, we are having an early night. Tomorrow we have to be up at 3:30AM!!! YIKES!!! Going to see the gysers. Should be great. Will try to get some photos up! I have tons.
