Our last night in Rio...

So tonight is our last night in Rio. Tomorrow we head to Ilhe Grande for some serious chilling out and beach time. The hammock is calling my name!

So we went to the Favela Funk Party and it was quite the experience! Wow, the Brazilians really know how to shake their booty! And they have booty! Even the maniquines in the stores have booty! Hilarious. So a group of us is taken to this party, way out in the favelas(the poor part of town, which is huge). And again we get VIP entrance and an area on a balcony above the dance floor. There was a DJ playing Brazilian funk music and everyone was dancing. The Brazilian men are VERY forward, but we had some hostel people there to watch over us. And they are very good at it. Aggie and I spent most of the night down with the locals dancing, but Mikki stayed up in the VIP area and hung out with the other hostel folks. Me and Aggie even managed to stay completely sober and just danced the night away. It was an ok night, didn't really like the music(much preferred the samba/carnival night), but it was amazing to see how the local young get down and dirty in Rio! I felt very safe with the hostel guides, but it was interesting to be frisked at the door, told to keep all arms in the van, and to drive through red lights because it is safer than stopping! But this is just in this area we went to that night, so don't worry. We were very well looked after mom!!!

Since we didn't get home until late, the next day we took off to do absolutely nothing. Got up late, wandered to the beach, back for dinner, watched a movie. Very low key evening. Today we went to an area called Santa Theresa, a old area that is set on the hill over looking part of the city. Cobbled streets, narrow and winding. Very funky.

Tonight is our last night, so we will probably do something. But maybe not too late of a night as we have to check out early in the morning. Tomorrow we go to Ilhe Grande, only a few hours south of Rio and a short ferry ride away. We have booked a nice hostel, and plan to spend a few days on the beach and relaxing. Feel the need to get away from it all!!

Hope all is well with you all. Thank you for the emails!! Will email you all soon. Cheers
Linds
