Shopping in La Paz!

Buenos noches! We are now in La Paz, and theres a bit of a thunderstorm, so hiding in the internet shop. Will have to postpone our shopping until tomorrow!

So, Friday, pretty uneventful day. Went for a very good dinner at a Chinese resturant. Had the most funky daquiri. There was nothing about it that resembled one from home. Just goes so show, order what they know! Not a daquiri in a chinese resturant in Bolivia! Duh. Then thought we would be patriotic and go to the "Canadian run" pub. Turned out to be crap.....maybe because the Canadian owners sold it 2 years ago! So went next door to the Irish pub! There was a band rippin out some wicked old tunes....in english! A pretty early night, and nothing too exciting to report.

Saturday we spent the day wandering the city and trying to find some good markets. Pretty dissappointed but did get to see some busy Bolivian everyday kinda shopping places. That night we chilled with some wine, met a few people from the hostel(James=Aussie, Lee=NYer, Rose=English) and also met up with Katie and Neil again! That night there was a huge parade in the streets. Loads of dancers, a pre carnival type deal. We seem to have such good timing! And we dont even plan it. So sat in the Irish pub that overlooked the plaza and enjoyed the sights of the parade, whilst enjoying some drinks. After the Irish pub we all ventured to a salsa bar, where I had the BIGGEST mohito I have ever seen! It wasn´t in a glass, so much, as it was in a vase! So big. Tried to learn a little salsa, and although Lee complemented me on my foot work, I think she was just being nice! Then James decides to try the local liquor and buys a mickey to do shots with. Good idea James! Really. After the salsa club we went to a street where there is tons of cars parked all over the street and people are just wandering around. Into another club for some dancing(although my flip flop broke so I spent the rest of the night sitting on a speaker!). A good night all in all. Me and Trace decide the hammocks in our hostel were much more comfortable(and cool) than our beds so spent most of the night there! Good times.

Sunday we met up with Katie and Neil and went for lunch(+Rose). Spent part of the afternoon trying to decide what our next move was. We had checked out but didn´t know where we were going! So finally decided, because time is running out, to get the next bus to La Paz. So got the bus at 7:30pm(but didn´t leave until 8:30pm). We didn´t know how long it was to La Paz but thought the guy said we would get here today at 10:00am. Oh boy, were we wrong! First off, just to show how interesting the bus rides can be sometimes....at one point there was an accident on a bridge. So instead of waiting for it to clear, our bus driver takes the road less travelled....that is right across the river! Very interesting. Thankfully we didnt get stuck. So we arrived in La Paz at 4pm! Thats a 20.5 hour bus ride!! My longest yet. Terrible. So we get a room, shower, and get some dinner. Did a little shopping, until it started to pour rain. So now we are hiding out in the internet cafe. Plans are to shop till we drop tomorrow, so put your orders in! Can`t wait! Will be heading to Lake Tititaca, and then to Oruro for Carnival. On the fast track now for sure. Till then....
