Off again...

Hello all,
We we had quite the relaxing time on Ilha Grande. It was a beautiful island. We didn't do too much. One day we did a HUGE hike(over two hours, trekking straight up hill, I just kept telling myself to "sweat through it"!) over the island to what is supposed to be the most beautiful beach in Brazil. It was a beautiful beach, but I have definatly seen better. We only had two days of sun, but really enjoyed it there. Went out a couple times. Everyone here goes out so late and stays out late. This morning when we got up the wind was so bad we thought it was going to rip the roof off the hostel. The lights even went out a few times. We weren't sure we would get the ferry or not. But it died down and we made it across to the mainland. We are now waiting at the bus terminal for the bus to Sao Paulo. We might stay the night, or take an overnight bus to Curtibia, our next stop. After a couple days there its off to the falls. We are meeting lots of locals and other travellers along the way. And so far we have been a very balanced trio and are taking good care of each other! Lots of laughs along the way. I can't believe its only been 2 weeks. It feels like way longer so far because we've seen so much. I will try to get some pics up as soon as I can. And get some more personal emails out. Thanks for all the love so far! Salute!

Getting away from it all...

Ahhh....the palm trees are swaying, the hammock is calling. On Wednesday night we arrived on Ilhe Grande. A beautiful island off the coast of Brazil, with a whopping 102 beaches! It's a beautiful place to be. It's so nice to be away from the city and in such a chilled out place. Our hostel is called Aquario, and it is right on the beach. The weather hasn't been that great(still warm, but mostly cloudy), but I'm not complaining. I love it here. Yesterday we spent the day on the beach, and came into town for a couple drinks and some dinner. We plan on hanging here till Monday, but we will see. We are hoping the weather will get better and we can do some snorkeling, and explore some of the other beaches. Right now we have stayed close to home, and explored the town a bit. Trying to recover from the fast pace of Rio!

So the adventure is takin a slower pace for a bit. Next week we will head further south and then inland to see the falls. Thinking of you all as i fall asleep to sound of the waves on the shore and the birds singing in the trees!
Cheers

Our last night in Rio...

So tonight is our last night in Rio. Tomorrow we head to Ilhe Grande for some serious chilling out and beach time. The hammock is calling my name!

So we went to the Favela Funk Party and it was quite the experience! Wow, the Brazilians really know how to shake their booty! And they have booty! Even the maniquines in the stores have booty! Hilarious. So a group of us is taken to this party, way out in the favelas(the poor part of town, which is huge). And again we get VIP entrance and an area on a balcony above the dance floor. There was a DJ playing Brazilian funk music and everyone was dancing. The Brazilian men are VERY forward, but we had some hostel people there to watch over us. And they are very good at it. Aggie and I spent most of the night down with the locals dancing, but Mikki stayed up in the VIP area and hung out with the other hostel folks. Me and Aggie even managed to stay completely sober and just danced the night away. It was an ok night, didn't really like the music(much preferred the samba/carnival night), but it was amazing to see how the local young get down and dirty in Rio! I felt very safe with the hostel guides, but it was interesting to be frisked at the door, told to keep all arms in the van, and to drive through red lights because it is safer than stopping! But this is just in this area we went to that night, so don't worry. We were very well looked after mom!!!

Since we didn't get home until late, the next day we took off to do absolutely nothing. Got up late, wandered to the beach, back for dinner, watched a movie. Very low key evening. Today we went to an area called Santa Theresa, a old area that is set on the hill over looking part of the city. Cobbled streets, narrow and winding. Very funky.

Tonight is our last night, so we will probably do something. But maybe not too late of a night as we have to check out early in the morning. Tomorrow we go to Ilhe Grande, only a few hours south of Rio and a short ferry ride away. We have booked a nice hostel, and plan to spend a few days on the beach and relaxing. Feel the need to get away from it all!!

Hope all is well with you all. Thank you for the emails!! Will email you all soon. Cheers

Party Central

Hola everyone!
Well it's day 6 and we are having a fantastic time in Rio. Once our baggage arrived the next day, we were feeling much better. Lets see, where to begin....

The weather hasn't been very good, but we have still seen and done lots. We have meet some very cool people at the hostel and have a little posse. Tonight the plan is to go to a favela funk party. Should be fun. Dancing the night away.

Soooo, so far we have gone to the beach at Copacabana, which is huge. There are vendors walking by all the time and its the beach and shopping in one! Love it. Speedos and thongs everyway you turn! There are so many beautiful people in Rio. We also went up to the Christ Rentador and saw the most amazing view of Rio. It was beautiful. Definatly the best way to see the city. A couple nights we went to an area called Lapa, where every Thur-Sat they have a huge street party. On the first night there was a concert outside with old 80's music. But we would never have known! Everyone was loving it and we got right up front and danced all night. The best part of it was when this one woman singer was singing "Its raining men" and all these silver glittery papers fell from the sky. It was so fun. In the morning we woke up with them stuck all over us! Ha ha! The next night we went there we wandered the streets a lot, and then ended up in a bar dancing to samba music. Its so lively and fun, you cant help but dance.

Last night was the best of all though. We went to a dance schools practice for Carnival. They start in September and practice every Saturday. But really is just a huge party, and eveyones dancing. They pick us up at 11pm and then came back at 3am. Rio really is a party city, and most things start late and end late. The music was super loud and they had a huge band of drums. It was amazing. Super colourful with balloons and flags, confetti thrown everywhere. Again you couldnt help but dance. It was fantastic.

Today we spent the day at the Hippi market in Ipenema. There was sooo much we wanted to buy, but we are trying to wait until Argentina to really spend. Tonight the plan is to go to a Favela Funk party. Sounds like it should be amazing. And then we really need to get out of Rio. It really isnt that cheap and we are having too much fun! Time to hit the beach, and mellow out for a while. Our plan is to head to Isle Grande, and hopefully the weather will cooperate.

So thats about it from this end of the world. We are all ok and having a fantastic time. Can't wait for the rest of the adventure. Have heard heaps of good things about the other countries we are going to. Take care all and keep me posted!
Cheers

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Well the time has FINALLY come! Tomorrow I leave for Rio de Janerio!! Me and Mikki leave at 1:30pm tomorrow and arrive in Rio at about 9:30am BC time the next day. Phew! Should be a very long day, but we will be flying through the night, so hopefully will snooze through most of it.

The plans are to spend at least a few days in Rio and then....well we don't really know. We shall see where our adventures take us. We might follow the coastline and be beach bums for a while, but will eventually head inland to see some famous fall on the border of Argentina. But we really just plan to see where life takes us, and enjoy the adventure along the way.

This past week has been super busy with visiting friends and family and lots of wedding events. This past Saturday my best friend Tre married her man, Chris, at a beautiful garden ceremony. The reception followed in the penthouse of the hotel, with the most amazing views of the sun setting over Vancouver. It was the most relaxed and beautiful wedding I have been to. I wish you both the best of the best!

I also had the chance to reunite with some people I haven't seen in years. It was great to see you all after so long!

So one final goodbye to you all. I hope you have a fantastic winter. This time I will only be gone for 6 months and I'm sure time will fly, as it tends to do when you are having fun. I will be sure to have a toast to you all on the beaches of Brazil.

Cheers!
